Jewellery Care
Gold-plated jewellery keeps its shine for longer with a little care. These simple habits protect the plating, stones and finish of your Fahus pieces.
Wear it last, take it off first
Put your jewellery on after your make-up, hairspray, perfume and lotion have dried. At the end of the day, take it off before you remove your make-up or change.
Keep it dry
Take your jewellery off before you bathe, swim, wash your hands or do housework. Water and soap dull plating and can loosen stones.
If a piece gets wet, pat it dry with a soft cloth straight away and let it air-dry fully before you put it away.
Avoid perfume, sweat and chemicals
Perfume, deodorant, sanitiser, hair oil and sweat wear down plating over time. Spray perfume before you put your jewellery on, and never spray it directly on a piece.
Remove your jewellery before exercise, cooking over steam, or applying turmeric, mehendi or kumkum.
Wipe after every wear
Gently wipe each piece with a soft, dry cotton or microfibre cloth before you store it. This removes sweat, oil and make-up.
Do not use polish, toothpaste, silver dip, ultrasonic cleaners or rough cloths. They can strip the plating.
Store pieces separately
Keep each piece in the pouch or box it came in. When pieces touch, stones can scratch the plating and chains can tangle.
Keep the box in a cool, dry place, away from the bathroom and direct sunlight. A zip-lock bag or a sachet of silica gel helps keep moisture out.
Handle stones gently
Hold necklaces and earrings by the metal frame. Avoid pulling on stones, ear chains, jhumka drops or tassels, and avoid bending a piece to change its size.
Matte and antique finishes
Matte and antique pieces have a soft or darker tone on purpose. Do not scrub them to make them shine, as this removes the finish. A gentle wipe with a dry cloth is enough.
After a wedding or function
Bridal jewellery often meets sweat, flowers, turmeric and kumkum on the big day. Wipe each piece, let it air out for a few hours, then wrap it in a soft cloth or tissue and store it in its box.
